Position Summary

The Medical Device Technician is a full-time member of the Information Technology (IT) Team responsible for supporting medical devices, telehealth technology, Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM), retinal screening technology, tablets, and other digital health tools used to support patient care and access to services.

The position works closely with IT staff, providers, clinical teams, and patients to ensure technology is properly deployed, functional, secure, and effectively incorporated into clinical workflows. The Medical Device Technician provides technical assistance and training but does not perform clinical functions or supervise employees.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Medical Device and Equipment Support

· Configure, deploy, maintain, inventory, and troubleshoot medical devices and related technology.

· Support smart blood pressure monitors, glucose monitoring devices, weight scales, portable digital retinal cameras, tablets, and other digital health equipment.

· Coordinate equipment repairs, replacements, warranty services, and vendor support as needed.

· Maintain accurate equipment and deployment records.

Remote Patient Monitoring

· Support implementation and ongoing operation of the organization’s RPM program.

· Assist staff and patients with device setup, connectivity, data transmission, and troubleshooting.

· Identify and resolve technical barriers that affect patient participation in RPM.

· Escalate clinical concerns to appropriate clinical personnel.

Telehealth Support

· Provide technical assistance to providers, staff, and patients before and during telehealth visits.

· Support tablets, cameras, microphones, speakers, internet connections, and telehealth applications.

· Troubleshoot common audio, video, connectivity, and access issues.

· Assist patients with basic use of telehealth technology.

Patient Registration and Screening Technology

· Assist patients with tablet-based registration, electronic intake, consent processes, and other digital check-in activities.

· Provide technical support for electronic patient screening tools and questionnaires.

· Prepare, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot tablets used for patient services.

· Assist clinical staff with incorporating digital screening tools into patient workflows.

Translation and Interpretation Technology

· Assist providers and patients with approved electronic translation and interpretation services.

· Support technology connections with interpreters during telehealth and in-person encounters.

· Troubleshoot routine device, audio, video, connectivity, and access issues affecting translation services.

Retinal Screening Technology

· Support deployment, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of portable digital retinal imaging equipment.

· Assist staff with equipment connectivity, image transmission, and related software.

· Help integrate retinal screening technology into clinical workflows.

Training and Technical Assistance

· Provide hands-on technical training to staff and patients on supported devices and digital health technologies.

· Develop or assist with user-friendly technical instructions and reference materials.

· Provide follow-up assistance and troubleshooting to users experiencing technology difficulties.

· Maintain a professional, patient-centered approach when providing technical support.

IT Systems and Security

· Work collaboratively with the IT Team to integrate medical devices and digital health technologies into the organization's technology environment.

· Assist with device configuration, software access, connectivity, user access, and technology testing.

· Follow organizational requirements for HIPAA, privacy, cybersecurity, device security, and appropriate use of technology.

· Escalate complex technical, network, software, or cybersecurity issues to appropriate IT personnel or vendors.

Documentation, Quality Improvement, and Grant Support

· Maintain documentation related to equipment, deployment, training, troubleshooting, and technical support.

· Assist with tracking technology-related activities and performance measures.

· Identify recurring technical issues and recommend improvements.

· Support grant reporting, quality improvement activities, technology implementation projects, and related initiatives.

Collaboration and Reporting

The Medical Device Technician reports to the Facilities and Special Projects Director and functions as a member of the IT Team. The position collaborates with providers, nurses, care coordinators, population health staff, clinical quality personnel, patients, and administrative staff.

This is a non-supervisory position. No employees report to the Medical Device Technician.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Experience in IT support, medical device support, healthcare technology, or a related field preferred.

· Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to learn and support medical devices, tablets, software applications, telehealth platforms, and connectivity technologies.

· Strong communication and customer-service skills, including the ability to explain technology clearly to patients and staff.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clinical and IT teams.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA, cybersecurity, and organizational privacy requirements.

Preferred: Associate degree, technical certification, or relevant coursework in Information Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Healthcare Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field; experience with Remote Patient Monitoring, telehealth, retinal screening, electronic registration, patient screening tools, or healthcare technology.
